How To Do Business With The IRS
This is an excellent book. I have been in practice for over 20 years and have studied it and used it as a reference for most of that time. My copy was destroyed in a fire and I am disappointed it is currently unavailable.

Tax Expenditures – Shedding Light on Government Spending Through the Tax System: Lessons from Developed and Transition Economies (Directions in Development) 0821356011

Tax Expenditures - Shedding Light on Government Spending Through the Tax System: Lessons from Developed and Transition Economies (Directions in Development)
Product Description:
Properly used tax expenditures can play an important role in implementing countries' economic and social policies. But they often go unnoticed because they take many forms of revenue forgone, from tax exemptions to tax credits. Without subjecting tax expenditures to the same scrutiny most countries apply to the spending sides of their budgets it is impossible to know the cost and efficiency of tax expenditures or whether they might be better allocated. Tax Expenditure-Uncovering Hidden Government Spending discusses conceptual and methodological issues relating to tax expenditures, provides a framework for evaluating them, offers case studies on government treatment of tax expenditures from developed and transition economies, and outlines generally applicable policy options. It also provides in individual chapters case studies of the treatment of tax expenditures in Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, the Netherlands, Poland, and the United States. Each chapter presents how the nation defines tax expenditures and the corresponding benchmark tax system. Some chapters also examine specific topics, such as methods for estimating and evaluating tax expenditures for policy analysis, how this analysis can contribute to policy debate, and how to budget for the cost of tax expenditures. The experiences of two transition economies, Poland and China, illustrate the consequences of implementing tax expenditure policies without an adequate institutional and analytical framework. A valuable addition to global knowledge on fiscal risk and responsibility issues, this book will assist governments and development partners in improving fiscal transparency and financial stability, and in continuing progress in broader economic and social areas.

This book is an encyclopedia of Off shore Tax Haven information.I found it easy to read and jam packed with rules and regulations of ovar 50 countries. It has tons of information sources complete with addresses and phone numbers . A great "how to do" reference bible I'm glad i found it ...Neil

Excellent book.
I have read plenty of material on Offshore topics. This book was clear and concise. No sales pitch mumbo-jumbo. **Plenty** of information from around the world.

cuts to the chase
I purchased the book last year, and found it to be extremely valuable - online now because I am ordering a copy for my attorney!

"incredible tax haven information guide"
I ordered 6 books on tax havens to learn about it. I liked Tax Haven roadmap because it wasn't a sales pitch - it gave me the information I needed including phone numbers. Glad there's sombody printing this info.

Poor quality book with numerous errors.
This book is abominable with an enormous numbers of errors . For example, it states that Belize City is the capital of Belize when in fact it is Belmopan and refers to the Kingdom of The Netherlands as "United Kingdom of the Netherlands" (!?). These incredible mistakes are just the beginning. There are many other books on offshore tax havens that are of superior quality.

so so
I wouldn't recommend this book. If you go to the IRS website you can get the same information. The book was repetitive in parts and I just didn't learn anything other than the deductions I already knew were allowed.

Nothing special.
This book is ok at best. The large majority of the advice is broad tax advice that applies to all tax filers, not just Police/Fire/EMT. There was only a handful of references to first-responder specific items and unfortunately, even those items weren't that helpful.

Leveling the playing field with the IRS
Very well done book which helped me with my problems with the Irs. The forms that IRS sends when you want to offer a compromise were baffling (just like any government form). The Tax Debt book helps to get through the paper work, and the real life examples in the book are great. You still have to do the footwork, but the IRS will cut your tax bill if you know what you're doing. It wasn't easy to deal with IRS on your own, but it's impossible without a book like this. Knowledge means money when you're fighting the IRS!
